Video of Jacob standing at Patio door

Here's another fun video of Jacob's new skills at standing. He loves to bank on the window and talk to Katie in the backyard!

Video of Jacob Crawling

So, I think I finally got this to work since I was able to get a shorter video of him crawling! He was trying to help mum convince the dog to get her butt inside the house!

A Whole New World

Sorry that I haven't updated in a few days, but man it's a whole new world now. Jacob is motoring everywhere (when he wants to), and it sure has changed life. I've been busy taking photos and videos of him over the last few days, so hopefully I will be able to get some of them on here. I tried to take a shorter video of him crawling, so hopefully that will work. If not, I'll have to look into a different way to upload.

So, Jacob wanted to help mum unpack the carseat. And now that he can go forward, he made sure I didn't leave him out!

Jacob was sure relaxed in his car seat when his cousins were over visiting! Just had to show off Jacob's fat legs!

Who needs toys, when you have pop bottles?

Jacob was totally entertained with watching the washing machine go...

Jacob crawling over to see Katie and try to help mum convince her to come inside!

And these are just to show off my beautiful boy!

So, this got pretty full with Pictures, so I think I'll publish it and try to do the videos in a seperate one again!

That's all for now!

Jacob is officially Crawling!

Ok, it's actually scooching!! But at least it's in the forward direction! We've actually had a pretty relaxed weekend around home for the most part, so I spent a lot of time videoing and taking pictures and letting him hang out in his diaper, and explore the house. Having a "mobile" baby, has definately changed things! In a good way, he's occupied with the simplest things, like the patio door, and the stick that goes in it! And in a bad way, because he is now constantly pulling my books off the shelf in his playroom (gonna have to move those), and the bag of various cords beside the computer is his new favorite thing to pull out and chew on.. (also gonna have to move that).

We also had a bit more time to explore Jacob standing at the couch and at his big block toy a bit more. I have some great videos of it, but at the fear of looking like a terrible parent as I video him while he falls down, I think I'll leave those off the internet. He was just so interested in trying to let go of the toy and move to the couch, but his skills just aren't quite there yet. However, we did get a few great photos!

I also decided to try letting Jacob feed himself! He has so many teeth, and is really not interested in anything I try to give him off a spoon. Sure, there's the odd day he will eat a green vegetable, and he still loves the oatmeal.. but he can't survive on that forever. So I tryed mixing his squash with avocado, and eventually gave up and gave him the spoon. He had fun, but I"m convincing myself that by exploring the food with his hands (and sometimes putting the spoon in his mouth to chew on it), he is getting used to the food. And, he tried desperately to pick up his puffed rice and eat it. Most of it ended up in his lap, but still.. it's a learning process right? :)

Anyway, I want to try and get some of the videos on here about these events, but I"m not sure if it'll work, so i'm going to publish this post, to make sure I don't lose it and put the videos in a seperate one. Make sure you check it out, because I got an awesoem video of his "scooching" today! Who knew that all you needed was an empty plastic bottle to entice your child to crawl???

Otherwise, hope you are all doing well! We're counting down the days to see Kent, but glad that he is finding so much opportunity to call home, and that he is doing well!

Another Year older...

Well, our birthday has come and gone, and for the most part it was a good day. I heard from Kent in the morning, even though they were having a sand storm and we kept getting cut off. He said he'd had a good birthday, and that one of his teammates had given him a pack of gummy bears, so he was happy.

As for me, I had a normal day with Jacob. I took Katie to daycare as a treat to myself. Then headed off to aquafit and to start my job at the MFRC. Then picked Katie up, headed home and had a nice long phone call with my friend Kim (it had been way too long). Then Jacob was getting cranky, so I tried to feed him supper, but gave up quickly and just headed for the bath and getting him ready for bed. I then discovered that our cable was out, so I had no tv, no internet, and no phone. I wasn't able to email anyone back that had sent birthday wishes, or get any phone calls. I quickly called Scott from the cell to wish him a happy birthday, ordered some chinese from the cell, and invited my friend Ang over to watch a movie.

The biggest news about my birthday is that Jacob had 2 wonderful firsts while at playgroup. He decided to go forward (commando crawl style.. but still.. FORWARD!!!). He also went on a slide for the first time and loved it. He kept leaning forward to grab my hands and go down again. He giggled with delight as his little but hit the matts! So, that was very exciting for me. Of course, because I was "working".. I wasn't able to run and get the camera for either of these events.. but I will try to get a video of him "crawling" soon.

One week down.. several more to go

So, Kent left us a week ago, and has been settling in nicely, except that they apparently have a lot of mice (Mum will like that), and he is already making requests for me to send things to make it a bit more comfortable. Here are a couple photos from his going away:

Since then, Jacob has been doing great. He decided that he did like to sleep better once there was one less in the bed. We've been very busy with various things, but Jacob has still found the time to keep working on new skills. He continues to rock back and forth on his knees, but is starting to go forward once in a while (by accident, I think). As well, he is learning to get around quite well, and go far, by rolling and twisting, etc. I've been trying to have him stand up at furniture more often, and he balances really well at that (but I have to stay very close by). I even tried holding his hands and forcing him to take some steps. Well today, I didn't have to force.. he did it on his own (once or twice). And lastly, Jacob has now sat himself up (from laying down) twice. And both times I have not seen him do it. I turn my back, and when I look again he is sitting up. I even second guessed myself, thinking that maybe I was imagining it that he had been laying down. But i'm pretty sure he has figured it out, but refuses to do it when I'm looking. So, things are definately changing in this household.

We had a nice trip to Red Deer last weekend. Jacob's cousins' had a ball playing peek a boo with him to make him giggle. They all loved to help me feed him, bath him, and carry him around. But nobody was having anything to do with diaper changes. I even have a great picture of Jacob after deciding to turn his head at the wrong time when I was trying to feed him some sweet potatoes.
On that note, feeding is going better. He loves his oatmeal in the mornings, and puffed rice at lunch or supper. We tried broccoli tonight for supper, and he loved it. So i'm thinking he's a green vegetable kind of guy. Oh well.. I went for groceries today and got lot's more veggies to start trying new things on him, now that things have settled a bit and I have more time to make food.
Anyway, that's about all for now. This was really just a trial to see if I"m doing this right anyway. Tomorrow is another busy day, as I'm starting my new job at the MFRC, helping with playgroup, so that should be interesting.
